Career Steps Targeted to Your Current Job Role

Your current role within your company is the best starting point for making your next career moves, and our training program will show you options you may not even realize you had.

Depending on where you are right now in your career, the professional baggage you carry is filled with different experience and know-how, and you add new skills and accomplishments to it with every new project, task and role you take on. That bundle of (often informal) qualifications is the perfect starting point for furthering your IT career, especially if you do so in a systematic manner.

Your own role in your company generally provides a great springboard for technical and personal growth, since after all your job has not only given you the opportunity to gain valuable experience, but also to see what’s out there. Taking stock of the experience you already carry in your professional suitcase can lead you to a variety of career paths – but you need to know how to bring along your previous experience and how use it productively for the future.

Our courses are based on practical experience, meaning you benefit in two ways – you gain specialized technical knowledge and can then, through our practical tips, integrate it into your current role.

Wolfgang Rauscher, Consultant & Senior Trainer

Specialization Paths

One possible path for developing your career is to broaden your skills, or in other words, to extend your technical knowledge and specialize. Such a path will allow you to grow further in your current role and to achieve the status of an expert. Certification systems often play a key role in career paths which focus on gaining further qualifications, as they establish internationally recognized, multi-level standards for demonstrating and proving knowledge. As a result, you’re well-advised to take a good look at those certification schemes which correspond to your current job role. A good place to start is our training program, which presents clear, carefully laid out descriptions of popular certification paths which will help you plan your journey to acquiring advanced qualifications.

Exploratory Paths

Just like in hiking, there are also career advancement paths which are more adventurous, where you go off the beaten trail and cross into neighboring disciplines which touch on your current role. Deliberately looking beyond the horizon can often be a very rewarding experience. Carefully building up qualifications in disciplines which neighbor yours will allow you to better understand your colleagues and their methods, more systematically manage and brief your contractors and contribute more extensively to shaping processes. Getting acquainted with the methods and ways of thinking of a variety of disciplines will help you to work better and more extensively in your own role. As a result, our training program offers, for all sorts of job roles, appropriate courses in neighboring disciplines which are a great way for you to add to the experience you carry with you.

Stepping Stones

Last but not least, advanced training targeted to your current job role also gives you the ability to change. When you not only are able to make good use of your current skill set but also systematically extend it, you become much more versatile and valuable to your company, and in turn can confidently take on new challenges. So make sure you also take a careful look to the left and right of the paths you’re already aware of – we invite you to browse through all the role profiles in our training folder to get some inspiration.

No matter what your own job role is, we guarantee you that Spirit in Projects courses are based on practical experience and will let you bring together our proven IT know-how and experience and use it to your best advantage.

Webinare in professioneller Qualität - bei Spirit in Projects

A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Webinars

Spirit in Projects’ modern studio infrastructure and in-house training mean the webinars and video courses we provide you are always of the best quality. The following behind-the-scenes look will give you an idea of the effort we put into our online training formats and the quality we expect of them.

A successful webinar means a lot more than just making an in-person class available over the web. That’s because the interaction and exchange of ideas which results almost automatically when all class participants are physically present is hard work when it comes to webinars. As a result, we’ve invested a good deal of time and effort in designing and implementing our webinars so they provide our students with just as optimal a learning experience as our classroom training.

Didactic Fine Tuning

Our first step was to completely rework our courses so as to divide webinar lesson units into smaller parts. Managing breaks is also an important factor in holding webinars, as trainers must ensure students don’t get tired too quickly. In addition, course content needs to be prepared for computer displays differently than for media used in classroom training, such as flip charts. Last but not least, all practical exercises must be designed so that they can be given online, which also means the proper tools for this must be selected and tested.

Webinars require a good deal of preparation – not just in terms of content, but also the wording used must be as clear and understandable as possible. Teaching is a completely different experience when you don’t have someone right in front of you. As a result, both participant interaction and exercises require careful planning in advance.

Markus Bimassl, Business Analyst & Trainer

The investment of such efforts was an essential first step in providing courses which are high-quality and productive. Following our initial work, we trained all of our course leaders on the new concepts and tested out our courses in small groups to get feedback for further improvements. In addition, we also developed a graphic concept for our webinars and video courses which ensures that the visual teaching materials we create are not only uniform but also attractive and catch the eye.

Production in studio quality

Professional Production

The importance of a high-quality studio infrastructure became clear to us early on. Both audio quality and video quality are important components in any training experience held online. As a result, we at Spirit in Projects switched over to a professional, fully-equipped studio infrastructure for producing our webinars and video courses, by adapting facilities at our Vienna office for use as a studio and soundproofing it through special measures to minimize distracting noises and echoes. We use professional recording equipment, including studio mixers, to record audio and video. This now makes it possible for us to produce all our online classes, whether live or recorded, in studio quality, and you as a student benefit from outstanding image and sound quality. These upgrades have also made it possible for us to improve the quality of our course content, through enhancements like visually appealing inserts and informative, carefully designed graphics which supplement trainer explanations.

Webinars for Your Success

We wanted to give you this behind-the-scenes look at our webinars to show you that our commitment to quality is equally high no matter which of our training channels you use to take a course. Our objective is to impart to our clients valuable knowledge based on experience and to make them capable of putting it into practice.

Spirit in Projects is constantly expanding our webinar and video training portfolio – you can find the latest information on that training here:

Your Training on the Channel of Your Choice

Your Training on the Channel of Your Choice

These days, it can be a challenge to take advantage of flexibility in training and development to actively shape your education, but our new multi-channel approach makes it possible for you to do exactly that.

We feel that it’s possible to create innovation only through practical experience, so our courses provide you with tried and tested know-how and experience from a wide variety of business sectors and projects. Our hands-on work in projects and management consulting has shown us that these past two years have seen a sharp rise in new ways of learning and working.

Our training programs have been specifically designed for a wide variety of channels and have been tested out thoroughly on each.

Wolfgang Rauscher, Consultant & Senior Trainer

By now, even companies based on traditional organizations and industries which are rather conservative are falling back on flexible models for work and further training. Keywords like online course, e-learning and webinar have become reality and are here to stay. They’ve become building blocks in the career of any individual working in IT and bring numerous benefits.

Nevertheless, many workers are also skeptical: A webinar after we’ve already sat through hours of meetings? So a video, not a social learning experience, is supposed to be the answer? Questions like that are certainly justified and need to be addressed.

Choosing the Right Channel

Choosing the right training channel depends on a number of factors, such as:

  • The length and complexity of the topic
  • Participant learning style
  • How participants are distributed in terms of location
  • Current situation in terms of security
  • Desired reproducibility of learning content

In addition, the decision for a training channel may also be made differently depending on which factor is given greater emphasis in a specific situation.

Every training method has its own advantages
Every training method has its own advantages

Designing a Targeted Learning Program

In order to achieve optimal learning results, you need to determine your own learning goals for a course:

  • Do I want to be introduced to learning content which is clearly defined and well-structured? – In that case, video training is your best option.
  • Is social exchange with others very important to me? – In that case, classroom-based training or a webinar is your best option.
  • Is flexibility in terms of location and/or time very important to me? – In that case, a webinar or video training is your best option.

Channel-Specific Teaching

Our experience shows it’s especially important that learning content not just be “re-formatted” from channel to channel – just recording a classroom course to video doesn’t result in quality video training, not by a long shot. The entire didactic concept, not just content, needs to be adapted to each learning channel. With over 10 years of experience in training, we recognize that need and put it into practice, so you can be sure that regardless of the channel through which you take a Spirit in Projects course, you’ll always get practical content of the highest standard.

Trainings for Quality Management and Test Management - by Spirit in Projects

When Quality Counts: Taking Advantage of Test Management

By now, it’s impossible to imagine going without testing at every stage of development when it comes to meeting the high demands placed on software being developed for digitalization projects in complex, mission-critical areas.

The process model by which the software is being developed is completely irrelevant in this process. Professional quality assurance and test management have become essential components of the software life cycle. Practical experience has shown that professional test management provides the following advantages:

1) Reduced costs

  • By identifying errors at an early stage, test management makes it possible to minimize costs.
  • Test cases can be derived by as early as the requirements phase, and can in turn validate the testability of the given requirement, which translates into an immense advantage for system acceptance.
  • Standardizing the test process makes synergies possible.
  • Test automation is a help in regression tests, which are absolutely necessary in the iterative process.

2) High transparency

  • Quality assurance results make project progress clear.
  • Modern test tools can easily give information on test status.
  • Differences between test runs, test data and test automation can be easily identified.

3) Involving stakeholders

  • Good test management involves stakeholders at an early stage.
  • Reliable information from test results helps customers to assess product quality and in turn gains trust.

4) MANUFACTURER-INDEPENDENT STANDARD FOR SOFTWARE TESTING

  • The ISTQB® test procedure has emerged on the market as a clear standard for software and system tests.
  • Systematic, practical principles for testing software ensure a uniform standard for the testing process.

MAKING USE OF THE ADVANTAGES OF TEST MANAGEMENT FOR YOUR ORGANIZATION

We at Spirit in Projects made the decision to include the entire ISTQB® certification track in our training portfolio so that you can reap the benefits provided by test management. Our courses teach you how to make optimal use of professional test management for your projects and corporate environment.

Key topics include finding an appropriate test strategy, developing a valid test plan and properly selecting methods to determine tests. In addition, you’ll learn how to derive quality test data and test cases, and how to achieve almost complete test coverage. Last but not least, we’ll show you how to properly structure test data specifications, where test automation makes sense, what a meaningful test report looks like, how to lead a test team, and much more.

A structured test management approach, selection of the right methods and qualified testers and test managers will also ensure your company meets today’s demands on digitalization projects.

Our ISTQB® training courses are offered in partnership with Trendig Training, and bundle together our expertise in each of our areas of specialization – Spirit in Projects brings in its experience from the field of requirements engineering, while Trendig has specialized in testing for years. As a result, we can offer you practical training which is closer to real life than ever before.

New Course in Our Portfolio: Digital Design Professional

The new Digital Design Professional certification program offered by the IREB® is geared to anyone who has an affinity for digitalization and has experience in fields like industrial design, BA, RE and UX. The concept is based on training modules which complement each other and help professionals acquire and reinforce knowledge in the field of digital design. Successful digital design requires specific perspectives and approaches which justify a separate occupational profile. A Digital Design Professional acts as an anchor for and proactively manages a company’s digitalization needs.

The “Digital Design Professional” training course and the content taught in it bridge the gap between the increasingly demanding design challenges which come up in digitalization and the technical know-how in design required. The content in the program follows a radical new approach for designing digital solutions, which sees “digital” as the material from which solutions are formed. Together with acquiring skills in design as well as cross-disciplinary skills, the approach provides a holistic view of digitalization so that innovative digital solutions are no longer left to chance.

Digital Design Professional – Qualification Profile

Because of the training he or she receives, a certified Digital Design Professional will be able to:

  • Take full advantage of the latest technological possibilities,
  • Take into consideration all aspects relevant to a successful digital solution,
  • Assess how these relevant aspects depend on and influence one another,
  • Develop digital solutions from a holistic standpoint.

The competencies taught are illustrated below:

Advantages for Companies

Companies that use Digital Design Professionals send a clear signal that they place a high value on digitalization. A solid basic education in the field of digitalization gives business departments the ability to collaborate at a higher level of quality and increases the chances they’ll actually develop innovative digital solutions. In addition, companies thereby underscore their competence for developing innovative digital solutions.

An internationally recognized certificate is granted to all students who successfully complete the training, making the course especially attractive through this proof of the knowledge gained in it.

Following are the next dates on which Spirit in Projects will provide that training – be sure to save your spot now:

Just Published: IREB CPRE – Foundation Level 3.0

We announced it before summer, and now it’s here – the IREB® has finally published the long-awaited CPRE Foundation Level 3.0. The new standard, released on October 1, 2020, promises a number of new features, especially with respect to the methods and techniques for which the IREB® provides training (keyword: agile methods).

The reworked standard is based on a survey carried out in the summer of 2017, which showed that although the CPRE FL 2.2 syllabus does still cover market needs for the most part, “some techniques are no longer used in practice, while the syllabus lacks others relevant to professionals seeking more iterative, more agile development. That feedback corresponded to the IREB’s perceived changes in the field of requirements engineering (RE).”

New Features in Syllabus

The survey resulted in a new syllabus for basic certification in the area of requirements engineering/requirements analysis, which now offers 7 educational units (EUs), instead of 9 as previously:

  • EU 1 establishes the RE framework and provides a brief overview on the what, why, where and how when it comes to requirements engineering. Although that EU corresponds to the previous EU 1, it has been completely reworked.
  • EU 2 is a new educational unit which introduces the nine basic principles of RE. The content of the previous EU 2 is covered to a certain extent in principle 4 of the new EU 2.
  • EU 3 is based on reworked content from four EUs of the previous syllabus (EU 2, EU 4, EU 5, and EU 6) and includes everything on the documentation process and documentation results (work products).
  • EU 4 brings together various sources for eliciting requirements, elicitation techniques, techniques for conflict resolution and for validation, which were previously distributed over the previous units EU 3 and EU 7.
  • EU 5 is a new educational unit which is required to shape and structure the RE work which needs to be carried out in a given context and on the basis of influencing factors and process aspects.
  • EU 6 provides the basic toolset for managing the RE process, and is a minor revision of the previous EU 8.
  • EU 7 presents a classification of RE tools and is a minor revision of the previous EU 9.

Be Ready for CPRE FL 3.0

The IREB has provided a six-month transitional period for exams during which certification based on either the old and new syllabus will be granted. FL 3.0 will first be offered in English and German, with other languages to be added on a continual basis over the course of 2021. Along with 3.0, the IREB will also be publishing a handbook for the FL and updating the related syllabus and glossary. As an accredited training provider, we’re optimally prepared for the change, and as soon as the 3.0 standard is released, we’ll immediately adapt the course appropriately as well as the preparation we offer for certification.

CPRE Foundation Level 3.0 – Preview of the New Standard Coming in Fall 2020

Rumors have been floating around the industry for some time that the IREB would be revising its “Certified Professional for Requirements Engineering Foundation Level” certification, and the board has finally announced that it would be offering training and certification in CPRE Foundation Level 3.0 starting in the fall of 2020. Below, we present an initial preview of what to expect.

According to the IREB, the reasons they’re reworking the current 2.2 standard isn’t necessarily the body of relevant RE knowledge presented in it, as that is still solid and meets the needs of that market. However, surveys carried out in the summer of 2017 revealed that some of the methods and techniques they taught no longer corresponded to actual practice, in particular those related to agile methods.

IREB CPRE Foundation Level 3.0 to come in Fall 2020

The IREB is currently aiming to publish the new standard in October 2020, and will also provide a a six-month transition period within which candidates can choose whether they want to take the certification exam on the basis of syllabus 2.2 or 3.0. The transition period will begin when the new standard is published (in each exam language) and is intended to ensure continuity and seamless transition in training.

Foundation Level 3.0 will first be offered in English and German, with other languages added on a continual basis. Along with 3.0, the IREB will also be publishing a handbook for the Foundation Level, like the one already provided for individual CPRE Advanced Level modules. The handbook can be downloaded for free from the IREB website. In addition, the IREB will also offer a new version of the CPRE glossary together with the CPRE Foundation Level 3.0 syllabus, which will be coordinated with the new version of the syllabus and ISTQB glossary.

Stay Up-to-Date with Spirit in Projects

As an accredited provider of IREB CPRE training, we’re optimally prepared for the change, but will also continue to provide training based on the current 2.2 standard until the new version appears. These certifications are equivalent and remain valid for an unlimited period of time – meaning now’s a great time to get a start on your training in requirements engineering!

As soon as the 3.0 standard is released, we’ll immediately adapt the course appropriately as well as the preparation we offer for certification. And finally, we offer all course participants an update/refresher from 2.2 to 3.0, made available as a service on our learning platform.
